Our Location on the Fairlie – Tekapo Highway

Mt Dobson Motel is the perfect location on State Highway 8 in the beautiful Mackenzie region. Mt Dobson Motel is only a 5 minute drive inland from the township of Fairlie and close to cafés, shops, restaurants, supermarket and the famous Fairlie Bake House. A perfect location to rest-a-while amongst spectacular scenery at any time of the year. We are only a few minutes walk away from the Opihi River with scenic views of Mount Dobson in the background.

Alps-to-Ocean biking and skiing on your doorstep

Many outdoor activities are at our doorstep – skiing/snowboarding, ice skating, biking, boating, fishing, hunting, golf, water skiing, swimming, hiking and mountain climbing. Our motel is ideally located for staying before or after cycling the ‘Alps to Ocean’ bike ride. Exploring Mt Cook and the Tasman Glacier plus the numerous lakes within the Mackenzie Basin is an easy day trip.

Attractions

Next door to our motel is the historic Silverstream Hotel and Restaurant which has excellent pub meals, takeaways, a pool table and gorgeous garden bar. Live music is performed there on numerous weekends throughout the year. They can get quite busy on any night so booking for dinner is recommended. As it is the Shoulder Season at present their hours are Tues to Thurs 3pm-9pm, Fri to Sun 11am-late, closed on Mondays.

 

We are only a 5 minute drive away from the township of Fairlie which has a range of shops, hotels and restaurants including a supermarket and the famous Fairlie Bake House.
